Boy Scout Troop 57

Chartered by Great Bridge Presbyterian Church, Chesapeake, Virginia

Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 57 - Great Bridge, Chesapeake, Virginia
Any River, Any Mountain, Any Trail...Bring It On!

Troop 57 is a large and dynamic Boy Scout Troop with over 75 Eagle Scouts since our original charter. Thanks to our active boy leadership, supportive parents, and generous adult volunteers we promote an environment of fun, adventure, and leadership development that teaches our young men the values and morals they need to become outstanding citizens in our community and nation.

We meet Monday evenings from 7:30-9:00pm at Great Bridge Presbyterian Church, 333 Cedar Road in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake, Virginia.

CPR, First Aid, and Summer Camp Prep
At the July 13th meeting, we'll be offering the CPR/First aid portion of swimming & lifesaving merit badges. Any scout attending summer camp and taking a waterfront activity should attend. Complete the requirements in one meeting and you gain an open night at camp. Mrs. Cushman and Mrs. Higgins will conduct the class. We are fortunate to have the parent resources we have in the troop, so please take advantage of this opportunity! Also the ASM's will be available to answer any last minute questions or help anybody review prerequisites before heading to Camp Ottari.

Eagle Scouts Graduating in 2009
Did you know that Troop 57 has nine local Eagle Scouts graduating this year (plus one who relocated)?  Considering that only about 2% of all Boy Scouts have earned the Eagle rank since 1911, this is a huge accomplishment!  These young men will be heading off to various college or the Coast Guard in the coming months, so please be sure to read more about them at our Eagle Scouts: Soaring Above page and then congratulate them on their twin achievements.

Merit Badge Counselors
Did you know that there are more than 100 Merit Badges in a variety of topics including camping, hiking, sports, crafts, science, trades, business, and future careers?  Whether you're a Scout looking to earn a Merit Badge or a Parent looking to become a Merit Badge Counselor, we've posted information about the opportunities in Troop 57.

Personal Fitness Merit Badge
We began the personal fitness merit badge on April 20th and will meet every Monday at 6:30pm for 12 weeks until July 13th. If you're participating, please be at the church at 6:30 in class"B" uniform with tennis shoes (please bring your class"A" to change into prior to the scout meeting), and make sure you have copies of the Personal Fitness Workbook and Personal Fitness Log.  If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Scott.

Summer Camp
We will be heading to Camp Ottari in the Blue Ridge Mountain Council the week of July 19-25 for Summer Camp. Please review the 2009 Summer Camp Permission Slip and the Summer Camp Equipment Checklist to help you prepare.  Additionally, we've posted the Merit Badge Schedule and the Merit Badge Prerequisites.  Don't forget that participating youth and adults must complete the Annual Medical Form.  Please contact Doug Scott if you have any questions about Summer Camp.
