Uniform Note

Troop 57 Uniform Note.

Note from the Committee Chairman on uniforms.  One way to keep everyone positive is to be consistent with our policy on uniforms for Monday's meeting.  In Little League baseball, umpires won't let kids play if they are not wearing the correct uniform shirt and they surely won't let them in the batter's box without a helmet.  The high school soccer coach won't let his players play on game day or at practice in Jeans.  In the Navy, sailors can't show up for work on the ship wearing flip flops with their utility uniforms or inspection blues.  Mr. Carroll, the Great Bridge High School band director, won't even let band members wear sunglasses when marching in competitions even on sunny days ...why? ...because sunglasses are not part of the required marching band uniform.  The same things apply to Scouts.  Being a scout requires wearing a uniform.  The boys in Troop 57, the Scouts of Troop 57, are required to wear full Class A uniforms to meetings on Monday.  So scouts "be prepared" and check your uniform a head of time to ensure that you have all the required parts including a scout belt, an approved neckerchief and scout socks.  We owe it to BSA to wear the uniform right.

I wanted to put out a couple more important notes on uniforms for the boys.

1.  Flip flops are not authorized with Class A uniforms.

2.  Scouts need to have scout socks with closed toe shoes or closed toe sandals like Keens at all times.

3.   Life Scouts are still required to be in full Class A uniforms for meetings and for running around getting signatures etc for their eagle project.  Yes ...even if you are coming from football practice or soccer practice or baseball practice and only need one signature.

4.  A Neckerchief is a mandatory part of the scout class A uniform.

5. A scout belt is mandatory part of the scout class A uniform.

For Parents: please don't allow your son to come to the meetings if they don't have scout socks, a scout belt or a neckerchief.  These three items were abused last year and we, the adult leadership, as well as the boy leadership allowed it.  We are going to make a concerted effort to work on this issue this year.

Other Notes

For Your Information.

  • T57 Library Open.  Merit Badge books now available on Monday Nights 7pm to 8:30pm in the fellowship.  Scouts can check out the books or work on their own worksheets.  Adult in Charge: Shelley Scott.  Scout in Charge: Johnathan H.
  • Steve Darulla Foundation Established.  A foundation in honor of Assistant Scoutmaster Steve Darulla has been established.  The foundations purpose is to provide a total scouting experience to every scout participating in Troop 57's program.  The foundation can benefit the entire troop or individual scouts.  For more info please visit Steve Darulla Foundation page.  Thanks to all who have contributed already ...if you haven't contributed yet please consider helping us get this worthy foundation established so that we can remember a great guy who served our boys and at the same time take care of Troop 57 and its scouts.
  • MERIT BADGE INFO.  Attention Troop 57 Scouts and Scouters - when reseaching merit badge requirements on the internet ensure that you are viewing the most current requirements.  It has come to adult leadership attention that several scouts/scouters are using the website meritbadge .com, the last update on this site was January 2004.  We suggest using the website usscouts.org, they have all the 2006 changes in effect and nice worksheets that the scouts/scouters can download.  Also, scouts need to follow procedure and contact the merit badge advisor prior to starting.  Don't create extra work by doing the old requirements.
  • Anyone having trip or event pictures ...please post in the forum section ...then let our webmaster  know so he can let the Troop know they are available for viewing.
